Favour Bank Story by Roisin
Encounter with a stranger in Paris.
Roisin, a 19 year old girl from the west of Ireland was working in
Zurich in
Switzerland. During the summer her 11 year sister arrived in Zurich
for a holiday. Roisin purchased two return train tickets to
Paris, where they
had made plans to meet a family friend. When they arrived in Paris the family
friend didn't turn up, the girls only had a little money, so they booked and paid
in advance for bed and breakfast accommodation. The accommodation turned out to be
a very dodgy hotel in a high
rise apartment block with graffiti on the walls, the girls literally ran out of
the place in the early morning.
They got a lift by car to the
The Champs-Élysées,
the only place they knew in Paris. With no money or accommodation and the return train four days away,
the girls sat dejected on the steps of the
Arc de Triomphe.
Two men approached and the girls explained their story, one of the men said
"
Come with me", and took them to a fabulous hotel overlooking the
Arc de Triomphe, he paid for three nights accommodation and meals and gave them spending money.
Roisin's mother later contacted the man and invited him to
Ireland, it turned out that the man's own daughter had a similar experience in
Poland and that was why he had been so generous. This is a wonderful example of the Universal Favour
Bank in operation, the man's daughter had received an advance from the Favour Bank, when
she was rescued by a stranger in Poland. When the man got the opportunity,
he gladly repaid the loan.
This story was told by Roisin on
Irish Radio on 30th June 2007.
